Financial Aid for Medical School

Loan Programs

Several lenders offer student loans customized for the needs of medical students, in addition to Federal Stafford and PLUS loans.


Access Group offers the Medical Access Loan and Medical Residency Loans, Dental Access Loans and Dental Residency/Dental Board Examination Loans, and Health Access Loans.


Education Funding Services, Inc. offers the Chiroloan for chiropractic study (Canadian Chiroloan for Canadian citizens), the OpLoan for optometry and the VLoan for veterinary school.

Graduate Leverage offers federal and private loan programs, including residency/internship and relocation programs, to support medical students both in-school and after graduation.

MEDFUNDS offers HEAL loans as well as alternative loans for undergraduate and graduate students.

MEDInvest offers health professions Stafford Loans with no fees.


Nellie Mae offers MedDent-EXCEL Education Loan Program.

Sallie Mae offers the MEDLOANS program, which includes the Alternative Loan Program for allopathic medical students and the MEDEX program for residency interviews and relocation. All MEDLOANS programs also apply to osteopathic medical students.

TERI offers the Professional Education Loan Program (PEP) for allopathic medicine, osteopathic medicine and dentistry.
