This page lists full tuition academic scholarships, such as trustee scholarships and presidential scholarships. These scholarships are often awarded by colleges as a way to attract talented students.

The scholarships listed on this page satisfy the following criteria:

  • They cover at least full tuition and fees.
  • They are based on academic merit.
  • They are college-controlled (i.e., not a private sector scholarship or state program).

These awards are only available to students who enroll at the indicated colleges.

Full Tuition Academic Scholarships

College Name Description
Albright College (Reading, PA) Warren L. Davis Scholarship

2 scholarships covering the full cost of tuition are awarded through the Admissions Office.

Students who are awarded their merit scholarship, the Jacob Albright Scholarship, are invited to apply for the full-tuition Warren L. Davis Scholarship. The scholarship is based on the candidate's academic qualifications, financial need, and scholarship application. Applicants must write an essay elaborating on what the student will contribute to Albright College, the Honors Program, and the student body during his/her four years on campus. From the pool of applicants, the scholarship selection committee chooses about ten students to interview for the scholarship.

Students receiving this award are asked to participate in the Albright Honors Program, reside on campus for three years (at least two in honors housing), and maintain a 3.3 overall grade point average as a full-time student.

Aquinas College (Grand Rapids, MI) Jerome C. Byrne Scholarship, John E. Veneklasen Scholarship, R. Paul Nelson Scholarship

1 Byrne, 1 Veneklasen, and 3 Nelson full tuition scholarships are awarded each year by the Admissions Office. The Byrne also includes room and board.

Selection criteria: This is an invitation-only scholarship competition. Students with an academic index of 61 or higher are invited to apply. The academic index is defined as ACT composite + 10 * GPA, where GPA is normalized to a 4.0 scale. The competition consists of three parts: Assessment Testing, Decision-Making Exercise, and Writing Component.

Bluffton University (Bluffton, OH) Presidential Scholarship

Two full-tuition scholarships are awarded each year by admissions and financial aid.

Selection criteria: Essay completed during scholarship competition, GPA, standardized test scores.

Students who meet the criteria for the Academic Distinction and Academic Honors scholarships automatically qualify. There is not a separate application. However, students must register and come to campus to compete for the scholarship.

Boston College (Chestnut Hill, MA) Boston College Presidential Scholars Program

Approximately 15 full tuition scholarships are awarded per year to entering freshmen by the Presidential Scholars Program, in conjunction with the Financial Aid Office. These scholarships also include full funding for summer programs following the first three years of study (respectively, community service, immersion study trip to France, and professional internship). Incoming freshmen are paired with faculty mentors and library resource persons. There are also two series of biweekly evening meetings featuring invited speakers and topics relating to personal growth, leadership and profession.

Selection criteria: Academic excellence, leadership potential, participation in community service. Median combined SAT's for entering Presidential Scholar classes for the past several years have been in the range of 1500 to 1520.

There is no formal application process. All students who apply to Boston College under Early Action (nonbinding) are automatically considered. Approximately 60 finalists are invited to campus for an information weekend (Wednesday evening-Sunday) consisting of two individual interviews, writing samples, and information sessions.

Husson College (Bangor, ME) Distinguished Scholar Scholarship

10-15 awards per year for full tuition. Selected by Admission Office and awarded only to first year students who are Validictorians of Salutatorians in their class. No special application needed.

Johns Hopkins University, Whiting School of Engineering (Baltimore, MD) Charles R. Westgate Scholarship in Engineering

Two four-year full tuition scholarships are awarded each year to entering students by the Dean of Engineering and the Admissions Committee. The awards are for undergraduate study in any engineering major. Recipients must continue enrollment in the G.W.C. Whiting School of Engineering and maintain a 3.0 or better GPA.

The scholarships were made possible through a gift from Kwok-leung Li, a graduate of the Electrical Engineering Department, and are named in honor of Prof. Westgate. These are the university's only full tuition merit awards.

Selection criteria: Academic excellence and research interests in Engineering. Candidates must present an outstanding high school record and achievements in other areas including leadership, success in science fairs, and evidence of independent research.

There is no formal application. To be considered for the award, candidates must apply for freshman admissions to Johns Hopkins University by January 1, and indicate an interest in majoring in Engineering.

Loyola College in Maryland (Baltimore, MD) Presidential Scholarship

10-15 full tuition scholarships awarded by the financial aid office.

Selection criteria: GPA of 3.9-4.0, upper 1% rank in class, SAT (Reading & Math) 1450-1600.

To apply, submit an application for admission by January 15; there is no separate scholarship application.

Marion Burk Knott Scholarship

1 full-tuition scholarship is awarded by the financial aid office.

Selection criteria: Roman Catholic resident of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, GPA 3.9-4.0, upper 1% rank in class, SAT (Reading Math) 1450-1600.

Marion Burk Knott Scholarships are only offered at the three Catholic Colleges located in the Archdiocese of Baltimore: Loyola College in Maryland, Mount Saint Mary's University, and the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.

To apply, submit an application for admission by January 15; there is no separate scholarship application.

Marshall University (Huntington, WV) Society of Yeager Scholars

6-10 Yeager Scholarships are awarded each year. The Yeager Scholarships cover full tuition and fees, room and board, a stipend for books and supplies, $8,500 for study abroad and a personal computer.

Yeager Scholars are awarded by the Marshall University Center for Academic Excellence and the John Marshall Scholarships are selected by financial aid office.

Primary selection criteria for Yeager Scholars are: high school graduates with a minimum ACT composite score of 30 or a minimum SAT score of 1340 (math and critical reading). Award selection is highly competitive.

Yeager Scholars require an application.

John Marshall Scholars.

206 John Marshall Scholarships are awarded each year.

The John Marshall Scholarship includes a tuition waiver to cover tuition and fees and a $1,250 stipend. (WV residents receiving the WV PROMISE Scholarship will receive only an $1,850 stipend in addition to their PROMISE Scholarship.)

Selection criteria for John Marshall Scholarships are: high school seniors with an ACT composite score of 30 or SAT score of 1320 or higher and a 3.5 GPA. Awards are not competitive.

John Marshall Scholarships are automatic if admittance and test scores/high school grades are received by the deadline.

Medical University of Ohio (Toledo, OH) Presidential Scholarships

4-8 full tuition and general fees scholarships are awarded by the Admissions Office.

Selection criteria: Total GPA and MCAT scores.

Consideration is automatic if an accepted student meets required criteria.

Recipients are recognized at the Orientation Convocation.

Morehead State University (Morehead, KY) Presidential Scholarship

The Presidential Scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship offered by Morehead State University, followed by the Commonwealth Scholarship.

Approximately 100 full tuition and university housing scholarships are awarded each year by enrollment services.

Selection criteria: National Merit Scholar, National Merit Finalist or Semi-Finalist; Kentucky Governor's Scholars or Governor's School for the Art with at least a 23 ACT composite; applicants with a high school GPA of 3.75 or higher and a minimum 28 ACT composite; or a valedictorian/salutatorian from an accredited Kentucky higher with a minimum 28 ACT composite.

Students are automatically considered for these scholarships upon acceptance to Morehead State University. There is no separate application process.

Commonwealth Scholarship

Approximately 200 full tuition scholarships are awarded each year by enrollment services.

Selection criteria: Candidates must be admitted to MSU as an entering freshman with a minimum admission index of 600; and be a legal resident of Kentucky; and have a minimum 20 ACT composite; and agree to maintain continuous residency is campus housing.

Students are automatically considered for these scholarships upon acceptance to Morehead State University. There is no separate application process.

New Mexico State University (Las Cruces, NM) President's Associates Honors Scholarship

12-15 full tuition and fees scholarships, plus a $1,750/semester stipend. Awarded by the financial aid office. NMSU's most prestigious and competitive scholarship. Renewable for up to four years.

Selection criteria: New Mexico high school graduates (high school diploma or NM GED); 3.75 GPA with 28 ACT/1240 SAT or 3.5 GPA with 30 ACT/1320 SAT. Must submit online application by mid-January.

NMSU Leadership Scholarship

35-40 full tuition and fees scholarships, plus a $1,000/semester stipend. Awarded by the financial aid office. Renewable for up to four years.

Selection criteria: New Mexico high school graduates (high school diploma or NM GED); 3.75 GPA with 28 ACT/1240 SAT or 3.5 GPA with 30 ACT/1320 SAT. Must submit online application by mid-January.

Crimson Honors Scholarship

Up to 135 full tuition and fees scholarships, plus a $500/semester stipend. Awarded by the financial aid office. Renewable for up to four years.

Selection criteria: New Mexico high school graduates (high school diploma or NM GED); 3.75 GPA with 24 ACT/1090 SAT or 3.5 GPA with 26 ACT/1170 SAT. Must submit online application by March 1.

New Mexico Scholars Scholarship

Unlimited number of full tuition and fees scholarships, plus a book stipend. Awarded by the financial aid office. Renewable for up to four years.

Selection criteria: New Mexico high school graduates (high school diploma or NM GED); qualifying family income ($30,000 max if one student in college, $40,000 max if two students in college); 25 ACT/1130 SAT or top 5% of high school graduating class. FAFSA should be submitted by March 1 for automatic consideration.

Crimson Academic Scholarship

Unlimited number of full tuition and fees scholarships, plus a $250/semester stipend. Awarded by the financial aid office. Renewable for up to four years.

Selection criteria: New Mexico high school graduates (high school diploma or NM GED); 3.75 GPA with 24 ACT/1090 SAT or 3.5 GPA with 26 ACT/1170 SAT. No separate application necessary.

Regents Scholarship

Unlimited number of full tuition and fees scholarships. Awarded by the financial aid office. Renewable for up to four years.

Selection criteria: New Mexico high school graduates (high school diploma or NM GED); 3.5 GPA with 23 ACT/1050 SAT or 3.75 GPA. No separate application necessary.

NM Lottery Success Scholarship

Unlimited number of awards, which are usually full tuition. Does not include required fees. Awarded starting the second semester of the freshman year. Awarded by the financial aid office. Renewable for up to four years.

Selection criteria: New Mexico high school graduates (high school diploma or NM GED), NM Resident; must enroll full time in the first semester following high school graduation; 2.5 GPA first semester with 12 graded credits completed. Must maintain 2.5 GPA with 12 graded credits for continued receipt of the award. No separate application necessary.

Transfer Tuition Scholarship

Unlimited number of full tuition and fees scholarships for new transfer students who are New Mexico residents. Awarded by the financial aid office.

Selection criteria: Must be transferring from a New Mexico branch community or junior college with 30 to 90 total credits attempted at all institutions and a minimum GPA of 3.5.

Niagara University (New York) Niagara University Honors Scholarship

About ten four-year full tuition scholarships (less the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) award) are awarded each year by the Niagara University Honors Scholarship committee. Recipients must remain in Niagara University's Honors Program and maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA.

Selection criteria: Candidates must possess a minimum high school GPA of 97 and a minimum cumulative SAT score (critical reading and math) of 1280 or an ACT composite score of 29.

Candidates who meet these minimum criteria are automatically considered for the scholarship.

The Ohio State University at Marion (Marion, OH) Dean's Scholar

Up to 10 four-year Dean's Scholarships are awarded each year. These awards include a full-tuition scholarship, a laptop computer in the first year (with software upgrades in years 2-4) and $900 for books in years 2-4. The scholarship recipients are selected by faculty and the admissions office, and awarded by the financial aid office.

Selection criteria: Essay competition followed by interview. Must have a 27 or higher ACT and submit a scholarship application by February 1.

Marion Scholarship

An unlimited number of one-year full tuition scholarships are awarded by the financial aid office.

Selection criteria: Top 3% of high school class or 29-36 ACT. Must submit a scholarship application by March 1.

Pacific Northwest College of Art (Portland, OR) The Dorothy Lemelson Scholarship

One scholarship for full cost-of-attendance is awarded each year by the Admissions Office. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years.

Selection criteria: Awarded to a student who shows exceptional promise as indicated by academic history, admissions essays and portfolio. Financial need as determined by the FAFSA is considered.

There is no separate application form. Admissions application materials, including portfolio and the FAFSA, must be submitted by March 1.

Ramapo College (Mahwah, NJ) Presidential Scholarship & Ramapo Scholarship

80-100 scholarships covering tuition and fees are awarded each year by the Admissions Office. The Presidential Scholarships also include a residence hall room.

Selection criteria: Incoming freshmen only. Top 10% of high school graduating class and have at least a 1250 combined on the Critical Reading and Math portions of the SAT.

Admitted students are automatically considered for the scholarship. There is no separate application process. Scholarships are renewed annually until graduation, so long as the student maintains a required GPA and is in continuous enrollment.

Southwestern Michigan College (Dowagiac, MI) Award of Distinction

15 scholarships covering all tuition and fees, plus $800 for books. (They are a commuter campus.). The scholarships are awarded by the financial aid office.

Selection criteria: High school cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher (usually must have at least 3.85 to have a chance of winning).

A separate application is required.

Transylvania University (Lexington, KY) William T. Young Scholarship

20-25 full tuition and fees scholarshps are awarded by the Admissions Office.

Selection criteria: Strong high school curriculum with a 4.0 average; ACT score minimum of 31 or SAT score minimum of 1400 (out of 1600); excellent writing ability; strong leadership experience and community/high school involvement.

Consideration is based on the application for admission. Candidates are asked to write an additional essay and come to campus for an interview.

The awards are renewable for four years as long as the student maintains a 3.5 GPA while at Transylvania.

Troy University (Troy, AL) The Millennium Scholar's Award

Approximately 60 full tuition, room and board scholarships are awarded each year by the Admissions Office.

Selection criteria: ACT or SAT scores and high school or junior college GPA.

Their is a separate scholarship application that student must fill out. If the student meets all academic requirements for the scholarship it is automatically awarded.

Troy University scholarships are designated to recognize high school and junior or community college students who have excelled in academic capacities. These scholarships are awarded solely on merit. Scholarships are four-year awards for high school students and two-year awards for junior or community college students.

The Chancellor's Award

An unlimited number of full tuition scholarships are awarded each year by the Admissions Office.

Selection criteria: ACT or SAT scores and high school or junior college GPA.

Their is a separate scholarship application that student must fill out. If the student meets all academic requirements for the scholarship it is automatically awarded.

Troy University scholarships are designated to recognize high school and junior or community college students who have excelled in academic capacities. These scholarships are awarded solely on merit. Scholarships are four-year awards for high school students and two-year awards for junior or community college students.

University of California Irvine (Irvine, CA) Regents' Scholarship and Chancellor's Achievement Scholarships

The number of awards varies each year, based on the quality of the applications. Awards are up to full cost-of-attendance, but are at least full tuition. The scholarships are awarded by the financial aid office.

Selection criteria: Comprehensive review of applicant pool to determine student's strength and breadth of academic preparation. Test scores and grades are also considered.

Consideration for the award is automatic based on University of California Application for Undergraduate Admission and Scholarships.

The Regents' Scholarship program provides priority registration, entrance into the campuswide honors program, access to summer research programs and four years of on-campus guaranteed housing.

University of California, Riverside (Riverside, CA) Regents Scholarship

Approximately 50 four-year full in-state tuition and fees scholarships (or up to $10,000 for both fees and stipend) are awarded each year by the Financial Aid Office. The scholarship may not exceed the scholar's demonstrated financial need.

Regents Scholars also receive priority course registration and are offered acceptance into the University Honors Program. The Honors Program lower division curriculum provides honors students with special seminars, projects, and classes designed to introduce them to the challenges and rewards of scholarship and research. Upper division students continue to pursue their academic interests by producing substantial honor theses or projects under the supervision of faculty advisors.

Selection criteria: Awarded to incoming freshmen only. Selections are based upon the student's strength and breadth of academic preparation, including grades and test scores. Must be a US citizen, permanent resident, or refugee. Other factors may be considered.

There is no separate application required. Consideration is automatic for on-time admissions applicants.

University of Detroit Mercy (Detroit, MI) Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship and Jesuit Founders' Scholarship

Up to 10 full tuition scholarships are awarded each year by the Admissions Office.

Selection criteria: Minimum 3.5+ GPA, 24+ transferable credits, scholarship essay, 2 letters of recommendation.

Application for admission is the only application that needs to be completed for any UDM scholarship. Each student, based on the admissions application, is evaluated automatically for all scholarships.

The University of Kansas (Lawrence, KS) Kansas National Merit Scholarship

An unlimited number of scholarships are awarded each year. All students who meet the criteria receive the scholarships. The award consists of a $10,000/year scholarship renewable for four years. This award typically covers 30 hours of tuition per year. The scholarships are awarded by the Office of Admissions and Scholarships.

Selection criteria: Must be a Kansas resident, selected as a National Merit Semifinalist/Finalist, and designate KU as their first choice college.

There is a separate application form for this scholarship.

Kansas National Achievement Scholarship

An unlimited number of scholarships are awarded each year. All students who meet the criteria receive the scholarships. The award consists of a $10,000/year scholarship renewable for four years. This award typically covers 30 hours of tuition per year. The scholarships are awarded by the Office of Admissions and Scholarships.

Selection criteria: Must be a Kansas resident, selected as a National Merit Semifinalist/Finalist, and designate KU as their first choice college.

There is a separate application form for this scholarship.

Kansas National Hispanic Scholarship

An unlimited number of scholarships are awarded each year. All students who meet the criteria receive the scholarships. The award consists of a $10,000/year scholarship renewable for four years. This award typically covers 30 hours of tuition per year. The scholarships are awarded by the Office of Admissions and Scholarships.

Selection criteria: Must be a Kansas resident of Hispanic descent, selected as a National Merit Semifinalist/Finalist, and designate KU as their first choice college.

There is a separate application form for this scholarship.

University of South Carolina (Columbia, SC) McNair Scholars and Carolina Scholars

90 full tuition scholarships are awarded each year, 50 for high school seniors from South Carolina and 40 for high school seniors from the rest of the country. Depending on the award, there may also be additional money towards room and board and books and supplies. The scholarships are awarded by the Admissions Office. The awards are renewable for a total of four years provided that a 3.0 or higher GPA is maintained.

25 South Carolina students are named Carolina Scholars and 20 out-of-state students are named McNair Scholars. South Carolina students receive a stipend of $10,000 per year. Out-of-state students receive stipends of $12,000 per year in addition to receiving a tuition reduction to in-state rates. The 25 South Carolina finalists not named Carolina Scholars are offered the Carolina Scholars Finalist Scholarship valued at $7,000 per year. The 20 out-of-state finalists not named McNair Scholars are offered the McNair Scholars Finalist Scholarship valued at $8,000 per year as well as a tuition reduction to in-state rates.

Selection criteria: Superior scholastic ability and achievement, leadership potential, and character. Financial need is not a consideration. Typical candidates rank at the top of their class and present SAT scores above 1300.

A separate application is required in addition to the application for admission. All credentials and applications must be postmarked by December 1.

Wake Forest University (Winston-Salem, NC) Nancy Susan Reynolds, Guy T. Carswell and Joseph G. Gordon Scholarships

Up to 6 Nancy Susan Reynolds, up to 6 Guy T. Carswell and up to 7 Joseph G. Gordon full cost of attendance scholarships are awarded each year.

Selection criteria: These merit-based scholarships are awarded based on an exceptional academic record. The Joseph G. Gordon scholarship also considers leadership and is awarded to students who are members of constituencies that are traditionally underrepresented at the university.

A separate application is required for each award, with deadline dates of December 1, December 1 and January 1, respectively.
